CELPIP Speaking Sample Answer
7. Expressing Opinions (pre : 30 rec : 90)
Answer the following question.
Question: Do you think that young adults should pay rent to their parents if they do not move out by the age of 21? Explain your reasons.
I can see why some people might see this answer positively. In my view, however, there are several reasons why my feeling the parents should not expect their children to pay rent even when they turn 21. For one thing, many children are still at University or College at the age of 21. If parents ask for the rent, these Children might have to give up their studies in order to get a job. I am sure the most parents would agree that would be much better for their children to finish their education. For another thing, In my experience, most parents with children who are in their twenties are not in financial trouble. As a result, They are unlikely to need rent money from their children. In contrast, few people in their early twenties have much money. As a result, aking them to pay rent could put them in a difficult financial position. To sum up, for that reasons I have given it is my belief that children who live with their parents should not have to pay rent. I would certainly not ask my children to pay rent when they turn 21.
